It’s no surprise that industries like construction, manufacturing warehouses, and steel fabrication are male dominated businesses. But these conventional roles are starting to change. Women entrepreneurs now represent the fastest growing number of small businesses, nearly doubling the rate of men according to the Small Business Administration. One such entrepreneur is Anna Cablik founder and CEO of the only Hispanic female owned reinforcing steel fabricator in the southeast, Anasteel & Sup ply Company LLC.
Cablik, originally from Panama, came to Atlanta in 1974 after graduating from Canal Zone College. In the span of seven years, she worked her way from clerk to Vice President of one of Atlanta’s top construction material companies. Not one to stay in one place for too long, Cablik left the company in 1982 to start Anasteel. As a multi-million dollar company, Anasteel has worked on high profile projects all over Atlanta including the Jackson International Terminal, Georgia Tech’s Clough Undergraduate Learning Center, and the Gateway Center Marriott Hotel Complex to name a few. Currently, Cablik’s company is working on the Falcons’ new home, Mercedes Benz Stadium, by fabricating all the required reinforced steel for the project. Her company was listed among the Atlanta Business Chronicle’s Top 25 Minority Owned Firms for four years in a row.
Cablik has gone on to serve as Director at Georgia Power, BB&T Corporation, and part of the Advisory Board for both. During her career, Cablik has received multiple awards like the 20th Anniversary Special Award from the Georgia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the Pacesetter Award from the National Association of Minority Contractors. When asked about her long and successful career she states, “Working in a male dominated industry has made me come to the plate and prove myself and the value of my company. I consider myself one of many women pioneers in this business, and hope to create economic opportunities for other Latinas interested in entering this field.”
