The manufacturing industry has always been an important market for this country. The products they provide are an ever-evolving resource, which means keeping up with the trends is as important as ever especially in 2017. The need for advanced databases and strong cybersecurity will be vital in yearly trends, and the innovation for it will come from manufacturers.
Industrial Distributions predicted big data will drive big efficiency in manufacturing in the coming years. The Internet of Things (IoT) will force manufacturers and dealers to improve their software operations. It will require them to strategically decide how to make equipment better and more efficient for the customer.
“Sensor technologies will drive the concept of connected factories and will fuel the introduction of mobility-based manufacturing. Web browsers will be used as dashboards to control equipment, identify snags, and make quick decisions that would have previously taken entire teams of people to handle. As connected factories go online, myriad amounts of data will be collected,” says John Zegers, Director, Center of Innovation for Manufacturing at the Georgia Tech Manufacturing Institute.
Factories that are connected to the internet are ahead of the curve and as more manufacturers go online, even smaller companies will need to invest in improving their software operations. Still, manufacturers are slow to embrace the internet change. According to John Nesia, Vice President of Market and Development at Rockwell Automation, only 10 percent of industrial operations are currently using connected enterprise.
Yet, in the CSC Survey 2014-2015, 65 percent of manufacturers believe big data will be a strategic business driver moving forward. There’s no question that as medical-device and healthcare industry trends continue to contribute to the dynamic changes in both design and manufacturing, manufacturers will need to take advantage of connectivity to improve manufacturing functions.
